Swiftwater Arena — a bold vision for sport and community in Athlone, Cape Town.
Designed as part of my BAS III studio, the project reimagines how an indoor arena can serve both Olympic-scale events and everyday community life. Swiftwater Arena is home to basketball, netball and handball, supported by flexible courts and retractable seating for 7,000 spectators. Beyond sport, the arena connects to its landscape through a restored wetland with boardwalks and jogging routes, while a second-floor restaurant deck opens to panoramic views of Table Mountain. It is at once a performance venue, a social hub, and a space of ecological renewal.
